Milford House is one of Nova Scotia’s most historic Inns. If you are looking for quiet, peaceful lakeside cabins surrounded by acres of natural woodlands, Milford House is the perfect getaway. There are few things that are as relaxing as an early summer morning paddle on a mist covered lake. Or borrow a book from the well-stocked library and enjoy an afternoon reading on the inn’s spacious screened-in verandah. On a crisp evening, return to your cabin and the warmth of a crackling fire.
Many families return year after year to Milford House to enjoy the serenity of the inn and surrounding lakeside cabins, to ramble the secluded woodland trails or paddle the Milford Lakes to picnic on a sandy beach or to renew friendships with other guests. For more than a century, many have enjoyed the Milford experience, summer through fall, and continue to return year after year. Coming to Milford is like visiting with old friends and family.
Everything you need is just outside your cabin door. Whether you are a family looking for a child-safe and pet-friendly summer vacation spot, or a couple in need of a romantic getaway, let us make this a memorable vacation. Enjoy our range of lakeside cabins, acres of woodlands and lakes, plus our attentive staff's focus on your comfort in these relaxing surroundings.
Milford House is conveniently situated in the village of South Milford, in the heart of the western region of Annapolis County, Nova Scotia — famous for its biodiversity, with its many lakes and forests. We are close to historic Annapolis Royal, and the community of Bear River, known as little Switzerland. Travel a little further to Digby, home of world famous scallops and a renowned 18-hole golf course or on to Brier Island for a day of whale watching. Wilderness enthusiasts can travel to nearby Kejimkujik National Park. We will prepare you a boxed lunch if you are heading out for a day long adventure.
Each of our distinctive rustic lakeside cabins has a view of one of the lakes and is within walking distance of the main lodge and dining room. The main lodge has telephone and dial-up internet connection. Don't lift a finger! Cabins are cleaned daily. Wood and kindling are provided for your use. Canoes can be rented on a daily or weekly basis.
First time guests and seasoned visitors — young and old — recount very similar impressions upon their arrival. There is that familiar tingle down the spine and feeling of anticipation when you see the big, white lodge sitting majestically back from the road … the Canadian and Nova Scotia flags suspended high on either side.
Off-season visitors will find a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of hectic schedules. A late Spring or Fall Retreat is just what's needed for your next business meeting. We are pleased to accommodate your group's needs. A small conference/meeting room seats 25 or our spacious dining room is available for larger groups. Off-season bookings enable us to provide you with a range of services in this relaxing, stress-free atmosphere.
Fall in Nova Scotia is breathtaking! Choose Milford as your destination this fall. The weather is comfortable and the pace slows down even more following the Labour Day weekend with the start of a new school year. The Milford Lakes are ablaze in autumn foliage. For many, this is often the perfect time to discover Milford House and the surrounding area.
Milford House is pleased to provide a smoke-free environment in its cabins, main lodge and all other buildings.
