Day Trips
The beautiful sand beaches on so many of these lakes make a wonderful resting point for a swim, picnic or nap. Don't miss an opportunity to explore by canoe. Exciting single or multiple day trips abound. Ask about our canoe courses and guided outings.
Boot Lake: Enjoy a beachside picnic on Gillette or Little Sandy. These are just two of the beautiful beaches on the Milford lakes. Depending on wind, they are only 30 minutes or so away from your cabin dock. Just a bit further south on Boot Lake, another 15 minutes, is Big Sandy beach.
Gang Run: A fun short trip for the whole family is up the Gang Run. This is a beautiful stillwater with herons, ducks, beaver, deer, turtles. It is epecially busy with wildlife early in the morning, while everyone else is still sleeping. Continue to a small pool just below a logging road bridge. From the bridge walk along a path on the right past some rapids to Gang Lake. Return trip is about 1 hour.
Other Lakes and Stillwaters: Other waterways are easily accessible by canoe. Some trips involve portaging, but canoes have been placed on the far end of portages to allow easier access to more distant waterways. Canoes on the outer lakes are locked. Pick up the key at the front desk before heading out for the day.
Trips for the more experienced: Begin or end your wilderness adventure at Milford House. Exciting single or multiple day trips abound. Take a wilderness day trip exploring the Boot, Fisher, Eleven Mile, Allison, First Branch and Elder lakes.
Plan multi-day canoe and camping trips to Kejimkujik National Park, via the Mersey on to Lake Rossignol or cross through the Christopher Lakes to the Medway system. These are tough trips but great fun.
