A Great Day on the Milford House Lakes
OPTIONS FOR NOVICE AND EXPERIENCED PADDLERS
Day Trips
The beautiful sand beaches on so many of these lakes make a wonderful resting points for a swim, a picnic or a nap. Don’t miss an opportunity to explore by canoe. Exciting single or multiple day trips abound. Boot Lake: Enjoy a beachside picnic on Gillette or Little Sandy.These are just two of the beautiful beaches on the Milford lakes. Depending on wind, they are only 30 minutes or so away from your cabin dock. Just a bit further south on Boot Lake, another 15 minutes, is Big Sandy beach.
Gang Run: A fun short trip for the whole family is up the Gang Run. This is a beautiful stillwater with herons, ducks, beaver, deer, turtles. It is epecially busy with wildlife early in the morning, while everyone else is still sleeping. Continue to a small pool just below a logging road bridge. From the bridge walk along a path on the right past some rapids to Gang Lake. Return trip is about 1 hour.t
Other Lakes and Stillwaters: Other waterways are easily accessible by canoe. Some trips involve portaging, but canoes have been placed on the far end of portages to allow easier access to more distant waterways. Canoes on the outer lakes are locked. Pick up the key at the front desk before heading out for the day.
Trips for the more experienced: Begin or end your wilderness adventure at Milford House. Exciting single or multiple day trips abound. Take a wilderness day trip exploring the Boot, Fisher, Eleven Mile, Allison, First Branch and Elder lakes. Canoes fully equipped are available for reasonable rates.

You must be 18 years of age to rent a canoe or kayak. Remember to check you have the required safety equipment. Extra paddles or life jackets and other supplies can be picked up at our Tuck-Shop.
