About our Forest
The main grounds of Milford House provide a great place to learn about the Acadian mixed forest found throughout the Maritime Provinces. Although harvested by the original hotel owners, the forest has been largely undisturbed for more than 100 years. In the 1980s, the then manager and caretaker received an award for their management practices. Today, we use some naturally felled trees for firewood but, otherwise, the forest regenerates naturally. Thanks to a long time guest and naturalist, Etta Parker, you will find small markers along the roads and trails through the woods with numbers that identify many of the plants and trees; these are keyed to descriptions available on site.
Listed by National Geographic in 2010 as one of Ten Classic Summer Family Resorts made for reconnecting in North America.

First time guests and seasoned visitors — young and old — recount very similar impressions upon their arrival. There is that familiar tingle down the spine and feeling of anticipation when you see the big, white lodge sitting majestically back from the road … the Canadian and Nova Scotia flags suspended high on either side.
Off-season visitors will find a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of hectic schedules. A late Spring or Fall Retreat is just what’s needed for your next business meeting. We are pleased to accommodate your group’s needs. A small conference/meeting room seats 25 or our spacious dining room is available for larger groups. Off-season bookings enable us to provide you with a range of services in this relaxing, stress-free atmosphere.
Fall in Nova Scotia is breathtaking! Choose Milford as your destination this fall. The weather is comfortable and the pace slows down even more following the Labour Day weekend with the start of a new school year. The Milford Lakes are ablaze in autumn foliage. For many, this is often the perfect time to discover Milford House and the surrounding area.
Milford House is pleased to provide a smoke-free environment in its cabins, main lodge and all other buildings.
